I had to leave my home in California and find another job in another state after being laid off. So now after being forced to move out of state for work, I am further penalized with a 7% tax when I try to rent out my property. The rent, by the way, doesn't even come close to my mortgage payments, so I am losing money monthly. On top of that why is CA taxing 7% of gross, not net after expenses such as my property management fees. This just doesn't make sense to me. I'm between a hard place and a rock. And I can't sell my house because the devaluation of CA property over the last couple years. No matter which way I turn, I am hosed! I've seen them. I also have a rental and had no idea about this until I saw a client's letter.
